Do I have ulcers?

Ulcers are wounds in the wall of the digestive tract (stomach, intestines). This diagnosis is made through an endoscopy.

Ulcers are typically presented by pains at the upper zone of the abdomen, just below the ribs.

My ulcers keep recurring. What could be the cause?

The pain due to ulcer disease can recur even after treatment. It is important to contact your Gastro specialist in case of recurrence.

I have H.Pylori all the time. What could be the cause?

H.Pylori is a bacterial infection which a lot of people in Africa have (Approximately 65%).

Your doctor will look for H.Pylori infection only if you have typical symptoms of acid/ulcer/reflux disease.

H.Pylori is treated with a cocktail of several medications for 14 days mostly. In some cases, the treatment can fail to work. In case previous attempts fail, several other treatment options are available.

Always consult your Gastro specialist for proper treatment of H.Pylori infection.

Could I be having IBS?

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a complex disease which involves gut and the brain link.

If you have crampy abdominal pains, bloating, changes in your normal stool patterns, all lasting more than 3 months, then YES, you may have IBS.
